CA-AFCS districts are pleased to be able to offer scholarships to qualified students. Please carefully review the various scholarships and the specific requirements. It is the applicant’s responsibility to clarify questions and deadlines and to submit completed application forms and required materials by the various deadlines. Membership information may be found on the AAFCS website. (Some scholarships require AAFCS membership). If you have questions or need help, please contact the specific person listed in each district.
Northern California
Application for 2026 Marguerite Fenner Scholarship will NOT be available for 2026. Hopefully it will resume in the future.
General Eligibility Requirements
Must be one of the following:
- a graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Family & Consumer Sciences or specialization
- a student obtaining a Family & Consumer Sciences credential at an accredited college/university
- attending Fall semester
Deadline for Application submission: April 1
- Marguerite Fenner Scholarships (funds distributed late in Fall semester)

* Available to women enrolled in Northern California college/university at the time of scholarship award - AAFCS membership is not required
Application Process
The Marguerite Fenner Scholarship application uses the google docs format. A Google account is required to complete and submit the online application. Hint: you might want to first prepare statements within the word limit, then copy and paste into the program. You cannot save and return to your work. You may submit your application between March 1-April 1.

The Essie Elliott Scholarship – $1500
Eligibility: Full-time upper division students with an FCS major at a 4-year institution in the LA area and who are active members of AAFCS and CA-AFCS

Eligibility: FCS professionals who are active members of AAFCS and CA-AFCS

San Diego District
Five or six scholarships ranging in price from $1,000 to $1,500 are available this year to eligible applicants. See Scholarship 2026-2027 Flyer

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room & board, and other educational expenses.
Eligibility:
- Reside in California, though priority will be given to applicants who have resided in San Diego County for at least one
year - Be graduating high school seniors, current college students or graduate students
- Be majoring in Food Sciences; Dietetics; Nutrition; Food Services; Hospitality; Human, Child and Family Development;
Apparel, Fashion and Textile Services; Housing and Interiors; Consumer Economic; Management and Resources; or
Family and Consumer Science Education - Plan to enroll or are currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university, community college or licensed career/
technical school in the United States in fall. Undergraduate recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 units per semester or
9 per quarter); graduate students may be enrolled full-time or part-time with awards allocated appropriately based upon
enrollment units - Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
