CA-AFCS | Student Edition

An official project of the AAFCS Centennial Celebration

From July 1, 2008 - June 1, 2009, AAFCS members are asked to track volunteer hours contributed as FCS professionals.  Hours are tracked by state affiliate on the AAFCS website.

Three primary criteria for volunteer hours include:

• Hours must include an application of your FCS expertise, and
• You must identify yourself as an FCS professional while volunteering, and;
• You must not receive compensation beyond expense reimbursement.

Eligible volunteer hours cannot be for services provided to one’s immediate family.

At the 2009 AAFCS Annual Conference in Knoxville, those individuals, communities and affiliates with the greatest number of volunteer hours, and the highest per capita rate of volunteer hours, will be recognized.

Welcome Students!

As President of the California Affiliate of Family and Consumer Sciences, I want to encourage you to check out the many pages of information we have on the CA-AFCS website and Student Chapter website.  Both of them are being continually updated and further developed.

Make sure you see how easy it is to join AAFCS—and CA-AFCS at the same time!  As you learn more about CA-AFCS, I hope you will envision how you might become involved in the association.  It’s a super way to meet other professionals your age and also to network with more senior members who are extremely knowledgeable in all the various content areas within FCS.   You could benefit from how well-connected FCS professionals are—both in and outside of our profession.

Be sure to read about all the grants and scholarships that are available to you as a student in our state association!
